Blog Action Day: Everything counts

Blog Action Day is almost over here in the Netherlands but I still want to write a little bit about it. Due to a hectic day at work I haven’t been able to read a lot of blogposts about this important topic so I have no idea what the popular topics are. But just browsing a few blogs I saw some trends emerging. Most people say: Print less, telecommute more. Use fluorescent light bulbs and try to shower more conscious. How do I feel about these tips and pointers?
My main point on being environmentally friendly is to have a conscious mind on everything you do. Be aware with your actions what the consequences could be. Since I have a little daughter running around (well, almost. She’s still crouching) I feel I am more responsible for what I do today. She is one of many that has to live in a world we leave behind in the future. I try to be more aware of my use of natural resources for instance and I look for more ecological ways to lead our lives. But to be honest, it’s hard. And expensive. We live in a very old house (built in 1894) and to isolate it the way we should takes a big investment upfront. Ofcourse, we will earn it back in coming years but still…it’s a lot of money. But as long as we do other actions as good as possible, like waste as little water as possible, turn off the TV instead of leaving it on stand-by, use rechargable batteries and try to buy local groceries every now and again, I feel we are helping.
More tips can be found on the EcoTumble blog or Hugg, the Digg for green
Every little bit helps. What’s yours?
