FreeMind review

On “The Authentic Fake” you can find a decent review of the mindmap app FreeMind.
Overall, I think this is a great free software, has great capabilities and it worked great on my computer (not slow, or anything like that). If you?re a GTD follower/fan or just want map your ideas for your essay, research or something else; then I suggest you give FreeMind a try!
I use FreeMind as well and I am still not sure if I like at as my default MindMap app. I tried Mindjet MindManager as well. It has a few more options, great exporting functions for business use (Outlook, Powerpoint, Word) and well..it just looks better. I am not promoting over-the-top design for software, but some eyecandy can be nice when you are at work. FreeMind looks more Spartan and because of it’s Java base, it doesn’t have that Window look.
Downside of MindJet is the price. Single license is 299 euro. That’s a bit to much for me. Perhaps I can persuade my office to buy an edition…
Anyone has any other suggestions for mindmap software?

i’ve been using soft called cmap (http://cmap.ihmc.us/). it’s not a real mindmap app (truly speaking it’s concept mapping software) but has similar idea behind. it works for me well, even better than other mind mapping apps. after brainstorming i put some linking phrases (namely questions) to get better focused on ideas and to transform them into real actions. although it’s written in java (like freemind), it has very nice looking UI.

I’ll have to agree with you on the eye-candy! You’ll work with something that you’ll love and enjoy! Probably similar to the argument that goes with the moleskine notebooks!

I use inspiration – http://www.inspiration.com/ . It’s marketed primarily to the education market, but actually it is very usable, simple, and relatively cheap.

I’ve reviewed a few different mind mapping programs, for OS X and Windows. http://www.hedley.org.uk/moostuffreviews..
I like Novamind and ConceptDraw MindMap for Macs (although I haven’t reviewed Novamind yet). I agree, MindManager is great for Windows, but expensive. Can’t beat FreeMind’s price!

I gave http://mind42.com a try last week.
I love the UI. Wish they’d make it a downloadable app instead of web-based.
